NINJA MUSIC TRAINING
Become a music ninja
and learn to express yourself!!

Chris has developed a super effective teaching style that cuts to the chase of learning an instrument and becoming a musician. Drawing from classical technique, jazz improvisation, folk traditions and world music styles, Chris will get you playing an instrument, hearing music and having fun faster than you thought possible.

In a 2 hour one-on-one private lesson, Chris develops a personal music curriculum tailored to your interests, needs, schedule and strengths, just like a PERSONAL TRAINER would do for your body! Emphasizing PERSONAL EXPRESSION and CREATIVITY, Chris starts everyone out by showing them rhythms, scales, and chords — the building blocks of music.

For beginners, Chris will introduce MUSIC THEORY, EAR TRAINING, SONG ANALYSIS, MUSIC HISTORY and JAMMING! For intermediate-level students, there is INTRO to IMPROVISING, COMPOSING 101 and BEING IN A BAND.

For the advanced students Chris offers ADVANCED IMPROVISING, DEVELOPMENT of PERSONAL STYLE, RECORDING, MAKING YOUR OWN CD and TIME TO DO A GIG.

Why a 2 hour lesson?
There are many reasons, but the 3 most important are:

  • A lot of the most important work in music lessons is frustrating and discouraging. Chris remembers taking lessons as a beginner and being told to “go work on it at home”!!! Chris works alongside of his students for a lot of their lesson, patiently guiding and coaching them through the issues at hand.
  • Part of every lesson is spent listening to musical styles, exploring music history, jamming with Chris, and talking about how the student is feeling and addressing fears, anxiety, and hopes.
  • It takes forever to get anywhere, you may as well stay awhile.

BE IN A BAND!!
Chris organizes and coaches student ensembles. Currently Chris has a Bluegrass band called THE ATWATER RAMBLERS that meets twice a month for a 3 hour workout session. Chris instructs and guides the band, teaching them repertoire, group dynamics, harmonies, how to construct solos, etc. A Blues band class will be starting in July!!

“I look forward to every lesson with Chris. He’s a great teacher, and his passion for music really motivates and gets me excited about learning something new.”   Keith Stropus
“Chris knows how to connect with both kids and adults. His passion for the music and the instruments is apparent during his unique lessons. Our whole family has learned how to be better musicians by learning with Chris.”   Sloan Family

“Chris’s teaching style is as unique and compelling as the music he plays. Chris cators each class to the individuals’ needs and has a fantastic ability to shrink down the most complex of musical theorys into vocabulary anyone can understand. Finding ones individual musical voice is the goal and discipline, patience and enjoyment are the tools used in Chris’s teaching to guide the process.”   Weston Pew
“Chris Murphy’s enthusiasm for music is infectious. This translates into creative, thoughtful and energetic teaching. Our 16 year old son looks forward to his lessons, practices at home without reminding, and has become passionate about all kinds of music, thanks to Chris.”   Katharine DeShaw
