| Chris Murphy Violinist, Band Leader & Composer has been composing and performing his own unique style of music for over 15 years. His beautiful and sensual music combines jazz, blues, country, classical, ethnic and electronic music into a distinctly original and powerful voice. Chris has performed in over 40 US States, including Hawaii, and in England and Ireland. He has lived, worked, and studied in New York, Boston, Seattle, and his current home, Los Angeles. He presently heads a rotating trio with some of L.A.’s top musicians, including: bassist Hal Cragin (Iggy Pop, Sarah McLachlan, Rufus Wainwright); bassist Mike Watt (The Stooges, The Minutemen, Firehose); bassist Erik Kertes (Sara Garaznek); guitarist Joshua Grange (Dwight Yoakam); drummer D.J. Bonebrake (X, The Knitters); drummer Steve Hodges (Tom Waits, Smashing Pumpkins, David Lynch); drummer Steve Nistor (Daniel Lanois); and drummer Walfredo Reyes, Jr. (Steve Winwood, David Lindley). |

ABOUT THE MURPH |
1983: Discovers Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Ry Cooder.... Buys an $80 mandolin at Ridgewood Music in New Jersey and takes 2 lessons, the 2nd of which he is late for. The next day he finds his mandolin in hidden the garbage can mother is suspected. 1988: Chris goes to the NEW ENGLAND CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC to study jazz composition and winds up hanging out at punk rock bars in Boston, writing songs with indie-rock bands. 1990: Graduated from NEC and was financially cut off from his parents. Forced to fend for himself, combined with his love for cheap drinks and smokey bars, Chris decides to make a living playing fiddle in an Irish band.... PS: Chris is still supporting himself playing in smoking bars and is still drinking well liquor. 1992: Chris formed folk rock band, BORDER PAtrOL with CHUCK VATH. DAVID LINDLEY produced their self-titled album, although the band broke up the day the record was finished... Oh well!
